“Reminders of the Roman influence were everywhere, from the stone pillars in front of the chapel, the ornate walled garden, to the way Auggie and Patrick dressed, all leftovers of the past.”
Possibly: Old Killpatrick in Scottland
a village in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland.
About
Rundown from lack of maintenance, Bonavem Taberniæ was Saint Patrick’s ancestral home. Now modern-day Old Kilpatrick in Scottland.
On the river Clyde next to the great Roman wall of Antonine. It was an important river for shipbuilding and trade
Climate
Coastal Scottish weather can be rough in winter and wonderful in the summer months, particularly July and August.
Winter lows include snow and temps can plumit to freezing and below. Summer months can see highs in the upper 70’s with average weather in the 60’s
Flora and fauna
For centuries fishermen worked the river Clyde for its abundance of trout and other more exotic fish.
Politics and government
Being the first fort along the Roman Antonine Wall, it held significance for a couple of reasons. First, it was the first port of call on the River Clyde and also the opening to the abundant fishing in the Firth of Clyde
History
Patrick’s birthplace was a spot which he himself calls Bonavem Taberniæ, and which in all probability may be identified with the modern Kirkpatrick, between Dumbarton and Glasgow.
There is a lot of debate where St Patrick came from, but this is where I settled because it’s perfect. Built on a Roman wall and on a river.
