Who we are

Badass Novels is run by Kevin Leigh, trading as Savvy Brain. The sites are badassnovels.com and app.badassnovels.com. Questions go to kevin@savvybrain.com.

What we collect

• Account details you give us: name, email, password (stored hashed).
• The writing you put in the app: books, chapters, wiki entries, covers, and other files you upload.
• Request-access and contact form notes, plus a rough IP so we can spot spam.
• Basic usage needed to run the product, such as word counts, writing sessions, and login cookies.
• If you paste a Grok API key in Profile, we store it encrypted. We never send that key to a browser.

How we use it

To run the studio, invite you in, keep you signed in, and reply when you write to us. We do not sell your data. We do not use your manuscript to train a model of our own. We do not put ads against your prose.

Grok and other AI

The chapter sidecar and wiki extract only run when you click them. They send the passage or chapter you chose to xAI, using your Grok key. If you never add a key, that text never leaves our servers for AI. xAI then handles it under their own privacy policy.

Cookies

We use a session cookie so you stay signed in, plus a small theme preference so dark mode remembers you. No ad trackers. No third-party marketing pixels on the writing app.

How long we keep it

Your account and books stay until you delete them, or until we close an abandoned invite-only workspace after writing to the owner. Access requests and contact notes we keep long enough to reply and to stop repeat spam.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and the writing in it. Email kevin@savvybrain.com. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data authority. We would rather fix it with you first.

Children

The product is not aimed at anyone under 16. If we learn a child made an account, we will delete it.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, we will date it here. Keep writing. We will keep the bar low on surprises.
